Previously, we’ve mentioned Passwordbox, an easy-to-use yet secure online password manager. It’s available as Chrome extension. Today, we’re going to introduce another password manager. A product from Symantec, called the Norton Identity Safe, currently in beta version.
Norton Identity Safe Beta is a handy application for Windows that enables you to easily and securely store your passwords (credit card details and sensitive notes) in an encrypted online vault. It gives you the convenient to access all your login details from virtually any computer, any browser and on the go too, as the passwords are stored online. Norton Identity Safe Beta is also available as app for iOS and Android devices.
Installation
Note : The Norton Identity Safe Beta is already installed if you have Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 in your system.
The app is easy to setup. It requires two steps to get the app running. First, you need to create a Norton account if you don’t already have one. Simply login to your account if you have one.
Second, you are required to create a master password to open (or encrypt) your vault of “passwords”. The master password must meet several criteria set by the application. It must be at least 8 characters long, includes one upper case, one lower case, one number , one symbol, must not be the same as your Norton Account username or password. So, try to figure out a password that is easy to remember by you, but hard to guess by others.
The vault is only accessible if your provide the correct master password. So try not to forget the master password, because once you forget the password, you can just kiss goodbye to the stored passwords in the vault. No one, not even Symantec can retrieve the master password for you.
Okay, now you’ve completed the setup successfully. The Identity Safe toolbar will be installed on compatible browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera.
Using Norton Identity Safe Beta
Besides enabling you to store login details (as well as credit cards details), the toolbar also includes features like Norton Safe Search (to perform safe search) and Norton Safe Web (protect you from malicious sites through website rating). There is also a Share button to share sites on social media safely.
This is how the toolbar looks like in Google Chrome.
To use the online vault, you must first unlock the vault using your master password. Click on the Identity Safe option to do so.
Once unlocked, Identity Safe will automatically save your login details (usernames and passwords) to the vault when you log into your accounts for the first time. The app will remember and automatically entered the login details for you each time you return the sites.
For example, the app has stored the login details of my Facebook account. Now, when I return to the Facebook site, my login details is automatically entered by the app. See the screenshot below.
In addition, you can store your usernames and passwords manually to the vault. To do so, simply click on the Vault Open option > Settings > Edit Logins. Meanwhile, the Edit Identity Cards option enables you to add credit card details.
Last but not least, you can access your vault wherever you are, even if you don’t have Norton Identity Safe Beta installed on the particular computer. Simply visit Identity Safe official site, then log into your Norton account and provides master password to open the vault.
Basically, we have covered almost all the key features of Norton Identity Safe Beta. You are free to explore the rest of the features and options available in the toolbar. Let us know how you think of this application in the comment below.
