According to a survey conducted by the Harris Interactive, the three major threats that online users encounter on the web are spam, phishing emails and fake anti-virus. About 24% of users come across annoying pop-up messages claiming that their computers have been infected by malwares. In order to get rid of the (non-existent) threats from their machines, users are prompted to install a recommended antivirus software. However, the antivirus software is just nothing but a fake one. There is another problem too, the fake antivirus can’t be easily uninstalled from your system, not without the right tool.
Fret not. Fake Antivirus Remover from Trend Micro is one of the right tools to help you remove fake antivirus from your computer. This tool alone can scan for 200 fake antivirus applications and remove them with just a click. Another similar tool that we’ve reviewed previously – Remove Fake Antivirus, can only delete 75 of such applications.
This is the main screen of Fake Antivirus Remover. There are options to scan all or selected processes in your computer.
Before you run the scan, you may want to update the Fake AV definition files first. To do so, go to the Settings tab and hit the Update Now button.
Once you are done, go back to the Scan tab to run the fake antivirus scan. You are recommended to choose Scan All Processes. The scanning process may takes a few minutes, depending on the number of processes in your computer.
In the scan result window, you can view all the fake antivirus found. There is a button to clean them up. In my case, my computer is free from fake antivirus. 🙂
Fake Antivirus Remover is free for download and requires no installation. The download page provides four different installation packages. Make sure you choose the right package.
