Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition is a free and stripped down version of the leading Romanian security vendor’s Antivirus Plus 2013. The free antivirus is lightweight and offers basic malware protection to your Windows system.
Unlike other freeware security applications, Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition is pretty much a install-and-forget-it application. It requires no input from you as the application runs on its own. The Auto Scan feature automatically scans your system for viruses and other threats when your system is idle. Meanwhile the Virus Shield gives you real-time protection in which files are scanned as they are accessed or copied. Any detected threats will be placed under pending cleanup or quanrantined. There is also Early Boot Scanning that runs scan on your system at boot time as soon as all critical services are loaded.
The main interface is a straightforward one without much features and no nagging commercials like Avira Free Antivirus. From the interface, you can activate/deactivate features like Virus Shield and Auto Scan. There is a button to quickly access My Bitdefender account and also a Logs button (at the bottom) to view system logs, pending cleanup and quanrantined files.
Due to its basic level of security protection, Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition is meant only for home users. The security application uses minimal system resources and is compatible with Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista and XP.
