Facebook has been a serious threat to the top ranking website, Google for all this while, mainly due to it’s increasing popularity and rapid growth. Therefore, it is just a matter of time for Facebook to surpass Google and claim the top ranking title.
And finally on last week, Facebook has marked a new milestone for taking over the number 1 spot from Google as the most visited website of the week (ending March 13, 2010), in the United States.
Before this, Facebook has recently reached the No. 1 ranking on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day as well as the weekend of March 6th and 7th.
According to the online measurement service Hitwise, Facebook had 7.07 percent of all web traffic for the week ending March 13. Meanwhile, Google had slightly less market share of 7.03 percent.
At the same time a year ago, Facebook only accounted for merely 2 percent of U.S. web traffic. And in just one year time frame, the market share for Facebook has increased for 185 percent! While during the same time frame, Google’s web traffic increased 9 percent.
