There’s always threats from the Internet. One of the threats is a form of malicious software (also refer as a crimeware) that uses bogus pop-up alerts or security messages, with the intention to scare you into thinking that your computer has been infected with viruses and spywares (but actually they are not existing at all) and urge you to download the recommended software to immediately fix the not-even-existed threats.
Sometimes, even though you never click to download the software, the software can be automatically downloaded and installed onto your PC. This software claimed to help remove malicious software from your computer, but what’s so funny is that software is the actual malicious software! By the time you’ve found out, you have already bring threats onto your computer!
The removing part of such programs can be very difficult because some programs may not get detected and removed by conventional antivirus solutions. So if traditional and regular anti-virus software doesn’t always detect such crimeware or malicious software, you can try the Norton Power Eraser.
Norton Power Eraser is a freeware portable Windows application that is specially designed to aggressively target and eliminate deeply embedded and difficult to remove crimeware (also known as “scareware” or “rogueware”), from your computer and restore your computer back to health.
This removal tool, currently in Beta, is easy to use. The interface is simple and straight-forward. On the main page, you are given two options to pick, that is to scan your computer system for threats or another option to review and undo the changes from your previous repair sessions.
For scanning computer for threats, you can choose to perform either a system or directory scan.
The scan result with a list of malicious programs (if there’s any), is shown shortly after the scanning process has completed.
Just to note that because the Norton Power Eraser uses aggressive methods to detect these threats, there is a risk that it can select some legitimate programs for removal. That’s why you are required to review the list of suspected malicious programs before decide whether or not to remove the programs from your computer system.
Remember, you should use this tool very carefully, and only after you have exhausted other options.
Norton Power Eraser is compatible with Windows 7, Vista and XP. Alternatively, you can try this Fake Antivirus Removal Tool.
