I don’t know you, but I hate when a program (particularly a free one) install something extras (add-on or toolbar) to the computer. It’s still acceptable if the extras are somehow useful, but if they are not, it can annoying.
In AVG Antivirus Free 2013, the security software will by default install the AVG Security Toolbar and AVG Secure Search feature to major browsers in your system. This includes Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.
This is the very first thing you see in Google Chrome when you fire the browser. My goodness, AVG has done some modification to you system without your knowledge. It changed your browser search page to AVG version.
You see the same search page when you open a new tab page. Yes, your new tab page has been replaced too. There is an option at the bottom right that enables you to get rid of the AVG Secure Search box and switch the new tab page to the usual one.
Also, you can manually switch back the search page to the default one. However, the question is, “Are you going to do the same thing manually on Firefox and Internet Explorer too?”. Certainly not, I mean not me.
Okay, let’s see if there an easier to get rid of the unwanted toolbar. So, do you still have the AVG installer with you? If yes, I want you to run the installer again. You should see the window similar to the screenshot below. Choose Add/Remove Features.
Here you can choose to exclude components from AVG Antivirus Free 2013. In our case, you want to get rid of AVG Security Toolbar, so go un-check the toolbar. And click Next.
AVG will re-configuring the installation, this time without the AVG Security Toolbar.
However, AVG Secure Search configuration is kept by your browsers, you need to manually switch it back to your default search provider.
