On September 8, Avira has released the beta versions of their upcoming security products. There are five of them : Avira Free Antivirus, Antivirus Premium 2012, Avira Internet Security 2012 (aka Premium Security Suite), Avira Professional Security and Avira Server Security. The products are now available for download and beta testing for free, directly from the new Avira BetaCenter.
Version 2012 includes several updates intended to make it easier than ever for the customer to choose the right product, configure it easily, and stay protected without worries through an active license. It is focused on the known pillars of success: usability, stability, reliability and more added value to the user.
The new release is now quicker to install and includes the new functionality that automatically detect and remove any potentially incompatible software (e.g. remove the security application already installed on your system) in the installation program.
In the new revamped main interface, you can find the Status panel which reflects the status of the most critical components of the solution you use. The status of the product is now reflected in the Status panel and also in the umbrella in the tray icon. Avira 2012 now has a “Fix Error” button, which enables you to fix the problems encountered with a single click.
In addition, you get more protection from Avira version 2012. For example, the Firewall included in Avira Internet Security is now able to filter IPv6 addresses on the adapter level and also create rules for applications trying to connect over IPv6. Plus, the Mail and Web protection components now supports the IPv6. Other new features and improvements include :
- The hosts file (which is used by some malware to prevent antivirus products to update) will be protected from alteration by unauthorized programs. This feature available in all Avira security solutions and will be active by default.
- The Premium products will have a new feature which allows Avira technical support engineers to interact with your computer and fix the problems manually.
- Improvement on the prioritization of the System Scan feature (on demand scanning) for all supported Windows platforms.
- Ability to automatically renew your license via Avira payment gateway.
On top of that, Avira now features a pop-up notification message at the top of the system tray, which will inform you of new product bundle, information about the latest security updates or a new promotion.
