Apple has made such a big success of its retail stores. Currently, there are over 300 retail stores worldwide, the latest Apple store was launched in Hong Kong on September 24. Now, it’s Google’s turn to venture into physical store business.
Google has quietly opened its first ever retail store in London! The brand new Chrome Zone is located inside the Currys and PC World megastore on Tottenham Court Road. It taken over 285 square feet of space.
In Chrome Zone, you can get hands-on with Google’s own Chromebook laptops. There are currently two models, one from Samsung and another from Acer. Now, customers from UK can play and discover cool web apps within the Chromebooks and chat with Chrome specialists regarding the Chromebooks before making any purchase. Previously, the Chromebook laptop is only available for online purchase.
FYI, Chromebook laptop runs Google’s own operating system, the Chrome OS, which was first launched back in June. Chromebooks have no hard drive, and all software (or web apps) and data is stored in the cloud. Therefore, an internet connection is essential to operate the machine.
A second Chrome Zone will follow really soon, which is expected to open in a major shopping mall close to London next week, with more stores planned for UK and other countries in the coming months. Thanks, DigitalTrends!
