To all Google Chrome’s users out there, here is your chance to help people in need in this holiday season as Google introduced the Chrome for a Cause charity program. Through this charity program, Google gives you a better way to show your support to charitable projects (without taking money from your pocket).
The idea is simple and do-able, you just need to install the Chrome for a Cause extension on your Chrome browser, browse the internet as usual, but this time you will need to open as many tabs as you can because for every tab that you open, Google will donate money to the charities.
The charities involved (five of them) include The Nature Conservancy, Doctors Without Borders, Room to Read, and Un Techo para mi Pais. In total, Google is ready to donate up to one million dollars on behalf of the Chrome users who participate in the program.
The charity program run between December 15 – 19. At the end of each day, you are allowed to donate to a charity of your choice based on how many tabs you’ve opened for that day.
Here’s what your tabs can do:
- 10 tabs = 1 tree planted
- 10 tabs = 1 book published and donated
- 25 tabs = 1 vaccination treatment provided
- 100 tabs = 1 square foot of shelter built
- 200 tabs = 1 person’s clean water for a year
You can find the number of tabs you’ve opened from the Chrome for a Cause extension. Simply click on the extension icon at the Chrome’s toolbar to reveal the figure.
To put it simple, here’s what you need to do to participate in the Chrome for a Cause program.
- Get the Chrome for a Cause extension
- Browse the web with Chrome between December 15 – 19
- At the end of each day, you’ll be prompted to click on the extension to submit your tabs
- Choose which charity you’d like to support with that day’s tabs — you can always support the same charity, or pick a different one each day
So what are you still waiting for? Join the Chrome for a Cause charity program. Raise money for charity by simply opening tabs in Chrome. 🙂
