Microsoft has released the public beta version (v4.0.1111.0) of their upcoming security software, the Microsoft Security Essentials 4 (MSE 4). The product is now available for download since November 29, directly from the Microsoft Connect site or you can try download site like Softpedia for the installer.

The security software is now even easier to use and navigate on the new simplified graphical user interface. Other new and improved featured include better protection, enhanced detection, automated virus cleanup and enhanced performance.

On top of that, Microsoft promised to deliver ongoing virus and spyware definition updates to MSE beta for download through Microsoft Update on a periodic basis. To have these updates installed automatically, you must be subscribed to Microsoft Update with preferences set to Automatically download and install new updates.

Microsoft Security Essentials 4 Beta is compatible with Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1 or SP2 and Windows 7 SP1. Available as free download and only works on computers running Genuine Windows.
