If speed is your top priority when choosing an app to install and use on your Android device, the official Facebook client for Android is certainly not in your list. The app is slow at loading home feeds and it takes longer time to get your status updates or comments displayed on Facebook. Is there any alternative? You bet there is – introducing the Fast Facebook app for Android.
Currently in the beta version, the Fast Facebook app promises to deliver fast and smooth Facebook experience on your Android device. It uses low battery (save on the battery juice) as well as lesser memory usage as compared to official Facebook client. Unlike other free Android apps, Fast Facebook is not ad-supported and certainly will not display annoying notifications every now and since on your device. There is no hidden services too.
Try it to believe it. The Fast Facebook app really lives up to expectation, it’s fast at loading your Facebook account! The home feeds, profile and photos load almost instantly. The app has a different look and feel from the official Facebook for Android app. Fast Facebook has a Ice-Cream Sandwich-inspired look, which to me is cool!
On the first run, you need to authenticate Fast Facebook to access your Facebook account. Click Login to do so. After successfully login, you are prompted to choose between “Fast for Performance” or “Fast for Quality”. I choose the latter as I don’t mind using more bandwidth to load quality pictures, as long as the app is fast.
This is how the app looks like after log in. You can do almost anything using Fast Facebook, it has almost every features that the official app has. You can view the home feeds, post status updates, add photos, add videos, read notifications, search friends, view galleries, access your profile, groups or pages and more. Feel free to navigate around the app.
In the settings, you has the ability to change the background of the app. Simple Grey is the background by default. You can choose from fruit, leaf or wheat theme, or choose a picture from your gallery (in your phone).
As the app is still in beta, it lacks a few features like event invites, widgets and push notifications. But not to worry, the developer is working on that. Probably the missing features will be available in the next update.
Now, why don’t you give Fast Facebook a test drive and tell us how’s the performance of the app as compared to the official app.
