It’s not the right choice to charge your iDevice (iPhone, iPad or iPod) over USB port as it takes longer time to fully charge your iDevice than charging it through a wall charger. However, with the help from freeware ASUS Ai Charger, you can charge your iDevice about as fast as the wall charger!
ASUS Ai Charger is a free utility for Windows that turns any PC into a universal chargers for your iPhone, iPad and iPod. It increases the power produced by a USB port, letting you charge your iDevice twice as fast over your PC’s USB port.
After installation, the application will add an icon (showing a red X) to the system tray. When you plug in your iDevice over USB port, the icon will be replaced by a charge indicator.
Take a look at the chart below, courtesy of Blogger Matthew Hunt. It shows the charging time for the iPhone 5 with Ai Charger versus USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and the wall charger. Notice the difference between charging your iDevice over USB port with or without the Ai Charger installed.
According to the developer, the Ai Charger application works with a variety of chipsets and motherboards from ASUS as well as all desktops. Use Ai Charger at your own risk as the application hacks the power going through the USB port and we don’t know whether fast-charging can damage your USB port or else.
