Microsoft will announce the availability of its upcoming Windows 8.1 OS update on October 18. The OS update will be available as free download for users running existing Windows 8.
For non-Windows 8 users, you can also get a taste of Windows 8.1 without the need to have Windows 8 installed on your system beforehand. Previously, the Windows 8 was available as upgrade when the new OS was launched October last year. This time around, the Redmond-based tech giant has decided to sell full retail version of Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Pro. Yes, this is definitely a good news for users who are not currently running a Windows 8 devices.
Interested users can purchase Windows 8.1, either as a download from Windows.com or at your local store as a retail packaged DVD pack. In the US, Windows 8.1 will retail for $119.99 and Windows 8.1 Pro for $199.99.
