Back in April this year, when the Sense 3.o UI was first unveiled, HTC did said that older Android devices such as HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD among others won’t be updated with the Sense 3.0 UI. The Sense’s hardware requirements was the culprit. However, HTC added that they will work to incorporate some features of Sense 3.0 into the devices.
Six months later, the Sense 3.0 UI alongside with the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS update has reportedly arrived to HTC Desire S smartphones. The update which is available as over-the-air (OTA), was first seen to be available on Orange UK network and expected to roll out to users in other markets in Europe soon before available to users in other parts of the globe. At the moment of writing, there is no official announcement regarding the update.
FYI, the Desire S was initially shipped with Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread OS and Sense 2.1 UI. With the update, the firmware version of Desire S now carries 2.10.401.4 (previously 1.48.707.1), running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS and Sense 3.0 UI.
In Sense 3.0, HTC Desire S will get new features like the interactive lock screens, new animations, an updated launcher as well as a host of new widgets, the latest version of the Android Market (version 3.1.5) and access to HTC’s Watch video streaming service. Users are also reporting better GPS performance. Thanks, gsmarena!
P.S. : Now, this is the good news that we’ve always wanted to hear! Can’t wait to get the update on my Desire S! 🙂
