Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (or MBAM) is one of the widely-used anti-malware applications on Windows. In fact, the anti-malware removal tool has been protecting PCs since making its debut on 2008. Now, Malwarebytes has decided to go mobile with the release of Anti-Malware Mobile application for Android devices last month.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile is a handy app that enables you to scan and remove malware, including spyware and trojans, from your Android devices.
Key Features of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile
- Detects and eliminates malware, including spyware and Trojans
- Scans your apps for malicious code
- Stops unauthorized access to your personal data
- Scans your Android device for security vulnerabilities
- Identifies applications that are tracking your location
The app has a straightforward interface. In the main UI, there is a “Scan Now” button to run the on-demand malware scanner. App Manager and Privacy Manager are located side-by-side at the bottom of the screen.
App Manager shows in tabs the currently running apps, installed apps as well as the whitelist of approved apps. Not so useful in our opinion though. Meanwhile in Privacy Manager, you can see in detail the access privileges of every app. They are listed by category : Contacts, Identity Information, Simple Message Service (SMS), and Security Settings. Clicking on a particular category will reveal the related apps. And it’s up to your decision whether to keep the app or uninstall it.
An update (version 1.1) to the app was released last week on Nov 20, 2013. The new changes include added capability to turn off real-time scanner and customize notifications, modified real-time app scanner so processing resources are not consumed when the screen is off, reduced battery consumption, added support for Kindle Fire devices and resolved Android KitKat (4.4) issues.
The app works brilliantly on Android devices running version 2.3 and later.
