Android Rise to Success

When Google teamed up with T-Mobile to release the first ever Android-powered phone, the G1, on October 2008, no many people were optimistic that the open-source mobile operating system which Google bought in year 2005, can get their share of pie from Apple-dominated market, left alone to beat Apple to become market leader.

All these years, not a single Android smartphone has ever beat iPhone. However, we are seeing changes this year as Samsung for the first time in Q3 2012 has sold more units of its Android-based Samsung Galaxy S3 worldwide than the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. 🙂

Android Rise to Success

Even better, Android has raced past Apple in smartphone market share with 500 millions devices worldwide under its name while Apple has only 410 millions activated. That’s not all, there are now about 250 million Android devices activated per year while only 104.7 million of iPhone and iPad are activated in 2011. In the past three months, 3 out of 4 smartphones purchased are running Android.

The Rise of Android infographic below has more details on how Android has became the most popular smartphone OS today. Check it out.
