There are increasing amount of web-based apps, mobile apps and sites that ask us to share a good deal of our personal information online. Well, this should be a major concern to us, the users, as some of them may exploit our information to their advantages.
But how many of us have taken the necessary steps to protect the personal information that we’ve shared online and ensure it does not fall into the wrong hands? Answer : Not too many! I am confident that many of us do not have a single idea what data the apps collect and how they use it.
According to an infographic, “Sneaky Apps & Your Personal Information” from backgroundcheck.org, only 37% of Facebook users say they have used the site’s privacy tools to customize how much personal information that apps are allowed to see. Of the 13 million Facebook users in the US, 8% have never changed their privacy settings.
