It is pretty much affordable to get a Chrome-OS based laptop (or Chromebook). For as little as $199, you can get yourself an Acer C7 Chromebook. Add an extra of $50 for Samsung Chromebook. Many people agree that a laptop that is designed for cloud computing and runs only web apps shouldn’t cost more than $500 apiece. But Google doesn’t think the same way we do.
Introducing the newest member of Google’s Chromebook laptop – the Chromebook Pixel! Also the most expensive Chromebook to date. It costs $1,299 for Wi-Fi model and $1,499 for LTE model. As such a premium price, you might want to first check out the specs before jumping into conclusion whether Pixel is worth your money or else.
First up, Google claims that there is no other laptop that can match the Chromebook Pixel in term of pixel density or screen sharpness. The 12.85-inch Chromebook (2560 x 1700 resolution) has the highest pixel density of 239 ppi. The screen is protected by a 0.55mm layer of touch-enabled Gorilla Glass.
The Pixel weighs at 1.52 kg and measuring at 0.64-inch or 16.2 mm thick. It is powered by a 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core processor with 4GB of RAM and two storage options – 32GB or 64GB SSD. Hey, this kind of storage amount would be too little for any regular user. But fret not, the Pixel comes with a huge 1TB of cloud storage, but only free for the first 3 years. Other Chromebooks only get 100GB Google Drive storage.
As for build quality, the body of the Pixel is made from an anodized aluminum alloy to create a smooth and durable surface. It is finely crafted where vents are hidden, screws are invisible and the stereo speakers are seamlessly tucked away beneath the backlit keyboard. The touchpad is made from etched glass.

The laptop boots up in seconds (not sure about the exact time), comes with built-in virus protection and has battery life of around 5 hours. Other features include a microphone/headphone combo jack, powerful stereo speakers, integrated DSP for noise cancellation, a 720p HD camera, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, mini display port, SD / MMC card reader, dual-band WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2, Bluetooth 3.0 and built-in LTE modem (LTE model).
As for availability, the Chromebook Pixel is already available for purchase on Google Play in the U.S. and U.K. The Wi-Fi model ($1,299 U.S. and £1,049 U.K.) starts shipping this week and the LTE version ($1,449) will ship in the U.S. in April.
