[UPDATE 17/4/2013] Facebook Home is now available to international users.
Facebook Home, the social network giant’s new launcher (also home screen replacement) for Android, has now arrived on Google Play Store.
However, keep in mind that the app only works on a limited number of Android smartphones including HTC First (first smartphone pre-installed with Facebook First), HTC One X, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy Note II. The new HTC One and to-be-on-sale Samsung Galaxy S 4 will support the app in the future. The app will initially available for download in the U.S. before reaching other parts of the world.
Let’s see all the features of Facebook Home. First up, the app replaces your Android’s lock screen and home screen with Cover Feed. The Cover Feed gives you an immersive Facebook experience, featuring the latest photos (in full screen) and posts from your Facebook friends as you turn on your phone or press the Home button. You can flip through to see more stories, and double tap to like what you see. Press and hold to zoom out.
Next, with Chat Heads feature and Facebook Messenger, you can quickly jump in a conversation, even when you’re using other apps on your Android device. The chat heads come in the form of small circles with your friends’ profile pics inside. Besides Facebook messages, you can integrate SMS into Facebook Messenger, this way the chat heads will include Facebook messages as well as texts.
In addition to that, Facebook Home also includes notifications, which appear right on your home screen. To open notifications, just tap on them. Last but not least is the app launcher that gives you quick access to your favourite apps. Simply choose the apps to put inside the app launcher by pressing and hold an app then drag it where you want it.
