Good news for consumers who don’t want to tie themselves with contract agreement from any of the four mobile phone carriers— AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, or C Spire, for purchasing the iPhone 4S in the US.
Apple on November 11, has officially started offering the unlocked, contract-free iPhone 4S on its US’s Apple Store.
The fifth-generation of unlocked iPhone is available in black and white flavors. It sells at $649.99 for the 16GB version. Meanwhile the 32GB and 64GB iPhone 4S costs $749.99 and $849.99 respectively. The device will be ship to your doorstep in one to two weeks time.
According to Apple, the unlocked version of iPhone 4S works only on supported GSM networks, like AT&T in the U.S. and various local carriers abroad. When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM from a local GSM carrier. Note that the devices will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint. If you want to use an iPhone 4S on Sprint or Verizon Wireless, you need to purchase the device directly from the carrier.
Here’s more information on the unlocked iPhone 4S.
It arrives without a micro-SIM card, so you’ll need an active micro-SIM card from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the micro-SIM card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.
