When Google Nexus 7 first made its debut, it was priced at $249 (approx. RM 762) for 16 GB model in the US. In Malaysia, the Android 4.1 tablet is selling at RM 999 a piece, that’s more than RM 200 mark up. Now, the 16GB Nexus 7 get a price drop to $199 (approx. RM 609) after the announcement of two new models of 32GB Nexus 7, one with Wi-Fi only ($249) while another with HSPA+ mobile data ($299).
So with the 16GB Nexus 7 now cheaper in the US, it is fair to see price reduction on the same model in Malaysia. In fact, ASUS Malaysia has just recently slashed RM 100 off the price of Nexus 7 from previously RM 999 to now RM 899.
Is it now cheaper to purchase the tablet? RM 899 in Malaysian money versus $199 (approx. RM 609) in American money. You decide.
With the price reduction on 16GB Nexus 7, ASUS Malaysia might be on its way (in time for Christmas?) to bring in the latest two models of Nexus 7 to Malaysia – 32GB model with Wi-Fi only and 32GB with Wi-Fi and HSPA+. Both models run latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
