The Most Secure USB Stick with Built-in PIN Keypad3 min read

USB flash drives can be extremely convenient and useful, but there is growing need to ensure these tiny devices that can now hold a huge amount of data are completely secure. If let’s say you have lost or misplaced your USB stick somewhere, and inside the USB flash drive contained a huge load of confidential information.

So can you ever imagine how bad things can get if someone has found your USB stick and decided to take advantage of it?

In order to make USB flash drives secure, some manufacturers have added the necessary encryption and password authentication software to the USB flash drives.  But the problem is that software requires drivers, updates, and is platform dependent.

Well, the LOK-IT Secure Flash Drive has taken a different approach to ensure the data in your USB stick is secure, that is by fitting a full PIN entry keypad to a USB stick. Why didn’t anyone figure out this earlier?

LOK-IT USB Stick Overview

The USB stick comes in two versions, the simpler of which allows five-key PINs to be entered to gain access, with a more sophisticated version featuring 10 keys (see the image below).

Security Overview

LOK-IT self-proclaimed itself as the most secure USB flash drive ever developed. So you may be wondering, what are the features that are so great about this piece of USB stick, that make it the most secure USB stick? Read on to learn about the security features.

LOK-IT is authenticated from the on-board PIN-pad, after you inserted it to your computer. LOK-IT will remain invisible to your computer, until the correct PIN is entered. This makes LOK-IT impervious to computer-based hacking attempts or password sniffers. Well, this is just the first of the four tiered security process.

View the video below for the authentication demo.

Second, all stored data is encrypted using military grade, FIPS approved, AES 256 Bit hardware encryption. Third, the encryption key is not stored in the memory, it is stored in LOK-IT security controller.

And, fourth, LOK-IT’s flash memory chip and other vital internal components are coated with an epoxy resin which defeats forced access to all stored data and the encryption key. Brute force PIN hacking is blocked by a maximum of ten logins attempts after which the drive has to be reformatted.

Unique Benefit Overview

  • Impervious to hackers, keyboard loggers and brute force attacks
  • Access utilizes Hardware Authentication restricted by PIN code on the device (as opposed to often confusing, vulnerable and inflexible software authentication
  • Not recognizable to the computer until the PIN has been entered
  • Automatically locks when removed from the computer
  • Easy to use and is ‘truly platform independent’ as it never requires any software installation. It works on any and all operating systems (different Windows versions, incl. Windows 7, LINUX or Mac) or other home-entertainment and embedded systems supporting USB standard.
  • Use of “on-the-fly” full-disk 256-bit AES hardware encryption not only makes data more secure but processing is remarkably fast

In other respects, apart from its aluminium case and dust and water resistance, the drive is identical to any other USB stick, coming in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities.
