It is not easy to get the applications on your Windows up-to-date all the time. It’s simply because it is way too time consuming to keep track of the latest software updates on the internet, and then to get the applications downloaded to your desktop before you can install them. However, it is a different story if you rely on software update application to carry out the task.
PatchMyPC is such application. It is a portable and lightweight tool that enables you to update third-party applications to the latest versions as well as enables you to install latest Windows updates directly from the application.
Every time you run PatchMyPC, it will automatically scan for outdated software. However, this tool does not check all your installed applications for updates. Currently, PatchMyPC can scan not more than 56 third-party applications (which is quite a letdown to many users). This include some of the commonly-used software (listed under the Common tab) like Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Firefox, Google Chrome, CCleaner Slim, Apple Quicktime and more. The rest of the software like Defraggler, Evernote, Imgburn, Google Earth, WinRAR (just to name a few) are displayed under the Other tab.
Any software that requires update will be highlight in red. Green means that the software is up-to-date, meanwhile black indicates that the particular software is not installed on your system. To run the software updates for the out-dated applications, simply hit the “Perform Updates” button. The installation will run automatically. The best part of it is that the installation will take place silently without the need for you to interfere the process.
In the Settings, you can configure PatchMyPC to skip update for any application that you want. There are also several options that you might be interested with, such as creating restore point before installing updates and automatically apply Windows updates.
Besides keeping your applications up-to-date, PatchMyPC also enables you to disable/enable startup programs from the same interface. It also works as Windows uninstallers.
