Free Microsoft Download Manager for Windows1 min read

Microsoft has recently released a free lightweight download manager for Windows that enables you to download files from the Internet in a more reliable and faster way than using a browser alone. This application makes it easier to download large files such as an application or multimedia files.

The download manager has been specifically designed to manage file downloads from supporting Microsoft Web sites in a secure and reliable way. In addition, the download manager also supports downloads from web addresses starting with http://.

Once started, the download manager displays an easy-to-use and straightforward interface that shows the status of downloads and enables you to resume downloads if they have failed.

On the settings page, you can configure proxy, change destination folder, set max number of connections, the max number of retries and the retry interval.

This application is very suitable for novice Internet users as it comes with minimum features. For advance users, freeware download managers like Orbit Downloader and Flashget, will suit you.

Microsoft Download Manager is compatible with Windows XP SP2,  Vista, 7, 2003 and 2008. The supported web browsers are Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8  and Mozilla Firefox 2, 3.
