The Word Clock

I came across various types of clock designs before, but this has to be the most creative clock design that I have ever seen. I was impressed! So what’s so cool about this clock then? Have you seen any clocks that tell the time in text instead of the usual digits? The Word Clock is the one ( maybe the only one ). Word Clock shows the progress of time by transforming a bunch of random matchsticks ( or whatever you want to name it ) into words that tell the time.

Let me test you. Do you see the word “Four” in the image above? That means that it is 4 o’clock, so the word “Four” appeared. The word will formed correspond to the time.

The Word Clock is designed by Christiaan Postma. He put together more than 150 individual clockworks and made them work together to become one clock. Here is the flash version of the clock, check out the animation of the clock in the “fast forward” mode below to see how it really works. See the transformation of the words from one to twelve?

I don’t whether this clock will remain as a design prototype or going to hit the market someday. One thing for sure, I will be happy to hang the clock on my wall if this clock does hits the market one day. :D
