Xiaomi’s entry level Redmi 1S smartphone is coming to Malaysia too (besides Redmi Note)1 min read

Xiaomi Redmi 1S

After the successful sale of Xiaomi Mi 3 in Malaysia, the China-based company is set to bring another two models to our shore. One is the Redmi Note (guess the price to earn F-code), while another is Redmi 1S (aka Hongmi 1S). We’ve talked about Redmi Note in previous article. In this article, let’s take a look at Redmi 1S.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S

The Redmi 1S is an entry level Android smartphone from Xiaomi, which is set to compete with other best cheap smartphones like ASUS Zenfone 4 and 5, as well as Huawei Honor 3C, to name a few. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi is going to price the Redmi 1S. The upcoming Redmi Note will be priced between RM 509 – RM 569. While Redmi 1S will certainly cost less than that. In China, Redmi 1S is priced at 799 yuan or RM 415 if directly converted to our currency.

A look at the specification, Redmi 1S features a 4.7-inch IPS screen display with 1280 x 720 resolution. It is powered by 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal memory. Storage can be expandable via microSD card, for up to 32GB. Out of the box, the device runs Android 4.3 with MIUI version 5 overlay.

Other features include 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash and supports 1080p video recording, 1.6MP front-facing camera, dual-sim support, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2,000mAh battery.

[UPDATED 25/6/14] : The pricing and availability of Redmi 1S are as follows : RM 419, start selling online on July 8, 12 p.m. sharp.
