Browsing through the Internet, you often see phones that you would like to get but your local carrier simply doesn’t offer that particular phone. Everyone has a phone like that in mind but unfortunately, most have resigned to settling for another model. Unlocked smartphones are a great solution to your problem – they are capable of being used across markets and continents, while facilitating your pay-as-you-go dreams. Who said you can’t go truly ‘prepaid’ and enjoy the top specifications at the same time?

Here are our top picks:

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

The ultimate unlocked smartphone, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus require no introduction. With the latest generation of Apple phones, we finally see a long-awaited entry into the super-sized phone territory that had since been ruled by its Android counterparts.

The size increase in the iPhone 6 Plus means that you can now enjoy all your apps and content on the same, coveted Retina Display screen technology. Superb colour calibration and consistently impressive pixel density all add up to the glorious high definition of Apple’s iPhone. With Apple leading in smartphone sales, you know that the unlocked iPhone is definitely worth the hefty price tag.

It’s been a long time since LG released a phone with swappable back covers, but finally, this is what you are getting with the G4. With selections like Tan Leather, Brown Leather, Metallic Grey and Gold, LG ventures into fashionable tech with the G4.

LG G4

Looks aside, the internals are equally impressive, with many experts and pundits placing the processor and screen display as being way up there with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Plus. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor is the company’s fastest for the moment, but unlike the similarly equipped HTC One M9, you don’t have to worry about “cooked hands” given that the G4 is significantly cooler. Furthermore, the 3000 mAH battery ensures a full-day of use, which puts the G4 ahead of Samsung’s current flagships.

If you are looking for the best Android unlocked phone you can buy today, the LG G4 should be your number one choice! In terms in value, there does not seem to be Android phone that is on par with the G4.

Motorola Nexus 6

When it was first launched, Google infamously put a hefty price tag on the Nexus 6. Price aside, the the latest Nexus is equipped with extraordinary specifications, including good multimedia playback and multi-tasking, leaving it as one of the phones with the biggest draws, even halfway into 2015.

The Snapdragon 805 main processor takes you up to screaming speeds while you do intensive tasks including video editing. The size may seem unwieldy, but imagine watching high definition 4K videos on its 6-inch screen! The Nexus 6 certainly is, a ‘Beast’ of a phone and the phone to consider if you treasure a bare-bones stock Android experience above everything else!

Xiaomi Mi 4i

Granted, the Xiaomi Mi 4i is set to be released in Malaysia anytime now, but what if you can’t wait to get your hands on this ultra-cheap, yet highly-capable smartphone right now?

Looking at its amazing specifications, it is hard to ignore this device. The Xiaomi Mi 4i is loaded with a 1.7 GHz main processor with 2 GB of RAM memory, a 3120 mAh all-day battery and a 13 megapixel auto-focus camera. The Xiaomi Mi 4i is arguably the best mid-range phone you can buy today, and definitely gives you the best bang for your buck when you get it online and unlocked.

The OnePlus One is the epitome of an unlocked flagship phone at a truly budget price. Initially, purchasing the OnePlus One was “by invite only”, but it has since been made freely available online, meaning that everyone can now have a taste of the “forbidden fruit”.

OnePlus, a Shenzhen-based phone manufacturer, coined the phrase “Never Settle” and created a phone that sparked much viral attention. They took the extravagant specifications of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 3 GB RAM memory and made it available for less than $300.

With a solid design made from premium materials, the OnePlus One provides a comparable amount of memory and speed as any of the phones on this list, but at a ridiculously lower price-point. Even with this year’s incoming OnePlus edition, it’ll be hard for this exceptional piece of hardware to be neglected. The OnePlus One certainly is the premier choice for anyone looking for an unlocked flagship Smartphone.
