Parrot AR.Drone – First Quadricopter Controlled by iPhone and iPod Touch1 min read

Remote-controlled helicopter is nothing new to all of us. Your friends and family (or even yourself) may have been playing with them. If you are a great fan of remote-controlled helicopters, you don’t want to miss out the Parrot AR.Drone, the coolest of all so far!

Parrot AR.Drone is very different from other remote-controlled helicopters. First, it has four helicopter blades that are used to fly it and we called that a quadricopter. Second, it has two built-in video cameras. What for? I’ll tell you later. And what’s so cool about this quadricopter is that this piece of gadget can be controlled by your iPhone and iPod Touch through Wi-Fi.

With the two video cameras attached with AR.Drone, this quadricopter will beam live video back on the screen of your iPhone as it flies to create an augmented reality environment. You can play games (solo and multiplayer) using AR.Drone which you can fight against a computer opponent that you’ll see on your iPhone’s display or battle other Ar.Drone.

Even more, AR.Drone has an autopilot setting. If your Wi-Fi connection drops while flying AR.Drone, this quadricopter will switch to autopilot. It will stabilize and then land itself safely.

Watch Parrot AR.Drone in action with the video below.

The retail price for Ar.Drone remains mystery and this gadget may be released as early as this month. For more info, please visit Parrot AR.Drone official page.
